About the CTT

The Center for Technology & Training (CTT) is a research center housed at the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering at Michigan Technological University.

The CTT works with local road agencies, the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and other transportation-related organizations to build, maintain and manage public infrastructure. We accomplish this through:

  • Workshops, online training and large annual conferences
  • Software development, distribution and technical support
  • Civil engineering research and technology transfer

These goals are distributed among several ongoing projects:

Michigan Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP)

Michigan's Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) serves state, county, and municipal transportation personnel. Its mission is to bridge the gap between research and practice by conducting training sessions, providing engineering technical assistance, and serving as a clearinghouse for information related to state-of-the-art technology in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure.

Michigan Engineer's Resource Library (MERL)

The Michigan Engineers' Resource Library (MERL) is a software suite that helps transportation engineers create road and bridge project estimates, enter and analyze bids for local jobs, and track daily postings and payment estimates. In addition, MERL provides access to various Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) resource documents. MERL was created by the Center for Technology & Training (CTT) at Michigan Technological University.

Bridge Load Rating

The Bridge Load Rating Program serves local Michigan agencies and their consultants with the support and training necessary to ensure success in meeting the requirements of the bridge load rating program. This support is offered through training, technical support for AASHTOWare Bridge RatingTM software, and engineering technical assistance. AASHTOWare Bridge Rating is available to local agencies and their consultants free of charge (courtesy of MDOT) for use on Michigan bridges.
